RE-ENTRY HOUSING

Newark’s Housing Crisis Hits Returning Citizens Hardest With Dire Consequences

With Newark’s affordable housing shortage, returning citizens are hit the hardest.  They are often forced to accept predatory and inhumane conditions unconducive with successful re entry. Without a stable place to live, landing a job and reacclimating to society after years inside becomes almost impossible.  The lack of safe, affordable housing is a major factor leading to  re-incarceration, further traumatized families, and broken communities.

In collaboration with Mayor Ras J. Baraka, the Returning Citizens Support Group are working to address these systemic challenges by providing a first-of-its-kind model in Newark: safe & affordable re-entry housing services along with comprehensive, on site wrap-around services.

The properties will be developed and managed by skilled formerly incarcerated leaders, and this groundbreaking model will service returning citizens and their families.
